Marketing for bathroom remodelers in Florida

Florida homeowners have learned to check a contractor before they hire one. The state licenses contractors, anyone can look a license up online in a few seconds, and after recent hurricane seasons many homeowners have heard a story about someone who took a deposit and disappeared. Your license number, your reviews and your photos do a lot of the selling before the first call.

The other thing that shapes your marketing is geography. Florida's metros are wide, coastal and split by water, so a tight service area matters more than a big one. Ads aimed at the whole state, or even a whole metro, spend money on homeowners you will never drive to.

What to plan around in Florida

Show your state license
Florida licenses contractors at the state level, through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), and homeowners can look up any license on the state's website. Put your license number in your ads, on your landing page and in your Google Business Profile. Plumbing and electrical work carry their own licenses, so make sure the right license holder does that part of any job. Rules change, so check current requirements with DBPR and your county before you advertise a service.
Flood zones and the 50% rule
In flood zones, the National Flood Insurance Program's substantial improvement rule, often called the 50% rule, can apply when the cost of work on a home reaches half of its market value. A full remodel on top of storm repairs can cross that line and change what has to be built. Know which of your service areas sit in flood zones and talk to the local building department before quoting large jobs there.
Storm season moves the calendar
Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. A storm can fill your schedule with repair work, delay materials and push planned remodels back for weeks. Keep your ads running steadily through the year rather than starting and stopping, so your pipeline of planned bathroom projects is there when the repair rush ends.
Humidity and accessibility
Year-round humidity makes ventilation, waterproofing behind tile and mold-resistant materials easy things to show in your ads. Florida also has many older homeowners, and walk-in showers, grab bars and curbless entries are common requests. Ads and photos that show those projects speak to a large share of the market.

Florida questions, answered.

Do I need a state license to remodel bathrooms in Florida?

Florida licenses contractors at the state level, and plumbing and electrical work need their own licensed contractors. Which license a bathroom job needs depends on its scope, so check with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and your county building department before you take the work.

How should I target ads in Florida?

By service area. On Google, pick the ZIP codes and towns you want to work in. On Facebook and Instagram, home-repair ads count as housing ads and must cover at least a 15-mile radius, so center them on the towns you serve and keep bridges and drive times in mind.

Which Florida markets do you work in?

We work with remodelers across the US, one per metro area, and Tampa Bay is one of the markets we are focused on first. If your metro is open, we will look at it together on the call.
